Mozambique’s mobile telecom market

The Mozambican telecoms market is one of the most underdeveloped in Africa.

Years of under-investment in network infrastructure, particularly in rural areas where most of the Mozambican population resides, has kept mobile penetration and coverage levels low. Secondly, the market has also suffered due to limited competition with the duopoly in place for most of the last decade contributing to low service quality and high costs.

This presentation offers a brief over view of the Mozambican mobile telephony market with a particular focus on the costs to consumers and the effect of increased competition cause by the entry of a third mobile operator, Movitel.
