Mapping Private Water Providers

SPEED+ will assist the National Directorate for Water Supply and Sanitation (DNAAS) to complete an accurate and up-to-date inventory and GIS mapping of the number and location of Private Water Suppliers (FPAs) operating throughout the country. Although previous inventories were completed in 2010 and 2013, the data is outdated and incomplete. Previous inventories covered only the Greater Maputo area and showed a rapid continuous expansion of the number of FPA. A current and complete inventory will provide DNAAS with vital information to inform the FPA licensing decisions. It will also be important in developing water policy and regulation, identifying investment priorities, and targeting development activities to increase the supply of drinking water to urban and rural areas. The data will be captured and managed in the National Water and Sanitation Information System (SINAS), which is being updated to allow consistent maintenance and updating of information.
