Trade Facilitation Agreement in Mozambique

16 Dec, 2016 – 12:02 pm

In 2014, an initial process of categorization was carried out by International Trade Centre, who facilitated a 2-day workshop in Maputo. The final product was a full categorization list, where each provision was given a category: A, B or C.

In 2015 Mozambique and the USG signed a MoU on the implementation of Trade Africa. As part of this initiative, the USG committed to provide Mozambique with technical assistance for the ratification of the WTO TFA. This included updating the 2014 self-assessment of needs to determine the country’s overall compliance level with respect to the TFA and to identify measures that require more time and technical
assistance for implementation.

The updated categorization will allow Mozambique to determine when the country can implement individual TFA provisions and identify provisions that can only be implemented upon receipt of technical assistance and support for capacity building. Consequently, SPEED began supporting the GoM to outline a strategy to implement the required steps towards ratification, which happened in October 31st, 2016.
